Oxford/Orion FISH is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, 100% staffed by VOLUNTEERS who help neighbors in our community.  As a volunteer you decide when and how much time you can give.

Volunteering

Office volunteers

 

Compassionate individuals to return calls and help individuals/families in need 2 days a month, 4 hours a day. You will speak with callers to assess their needs to see if they are eligible for FISH assistance and/or give them referrals to other agencies that may help. You will be trained in procedures and minimal computer database updating. You will be responsible for answering phones, scheduling clients for food, client reviews, and filing.

Pantry volunteers

 

Caring people to assist clients with shopping, explaining how the pantry works (limits on food, checking to see if the Pantry report has the current information about our clients, giving a tour if they are new, etc), bagging their groceries and possibly stocking shelves when slow (no heavy lifting involved),  Time involved would be every other week for 2 hours per day with another partner and you pick the day that works for you.

Pantry Drivers

 

This is great for retired, part time employees who want to give back.  You may be asked to pick up food from a school, church, business, etc. or to pick up items purchased at our local grocery stores (Items that are needed to stock the pantry).  Sometimes you will be called and needed within a day or two. 

Community Service Hours

 

Community Service hours are always available the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month (unless it is a holiday) from 10am to 12pm.  No need to call, just come and be ready for whatever...

Stocking Shelves

 

Have a couple hours to volunteer?   We are always looking for help every Tuesdays and Thursday from 9-11am to stock shelves.   Easy, fun, and any age can come and do it...

Pantry Sub

 

After you are trained you would be put on a list for our regular volunteers to call if they are sick, on vacation or just can’t do the day they are scheduled.   You work when it fits into your schedule.
